Hydrogen-Permeation through synthetic Material
Simatec AG (1997-1998)
Simatec AG is the worldwide leading company in automatic lubricant dispensers. In
1997 we started a contract for them concerning the loss of pressurised hydrogen
from different kinds of plastic containers varying temperature, pressure and coating.
By using mass flow controllers and gas analysis we were able to determine traces
o about 0,3 cm³ ppm. The plastic containers made of PET and POM were coated using several
techniques to reduce the permeation of hydrogen. We achieved a measurable
improvement using a galvanic copper layer.
